Rogue – ‘Designed for Men’

rogue_cover.jpg“ROGUE was a competitor to PLAYBOY. Plenty of semi-nude photos, but what set ROGUE aside was the great science fiction and general fiction authors who contributed stories.” Too bad there isn’t a modern equivalent of semi-literate smut around now.

Concha y Toro

0 #

fr_cab.gifConcha y Toro is a fine, cheap wine, especially the plain ol’ Cab Sav under the Frontera label. I started drinking this stuff back in ’93, when Chilean wines were just making the scene. It’s still good, and for $7.99 at S@m’s, it’s a steal. Note that the Merlot blend is not as good, IMO, but lately that’s all I’ve found at the regular liquor stores. Everyone seems to have the Sunrise variety, but I haven’t tried that and probably wouldn’t pay the extra $2 for it anyway. I wonder if they’re just repackaging the Frontera due to its popularity? The bottle graphic is a little tall, so I’m adding this line to help line it up with the bottom of the text.

‘Tempered over burning witches’

I tried Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale and liked it. I wouldn’t pay $4+ for a pint again for it, but it was nice in a hoppy way for an ale. Great label.

Continental sucks (more)

0 #

UPDATE: I’m missing a kidney. And the breakfast bar, it sucks.

woodley-suites.jpgIf I never post here again, it’s because I stayed at the nasty, terrifying Woodley Suites in Houston. This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Everything is filthy, and it looks like the door has been kicked in at least once. I complained to Continental, who put me up in this place. Twice, actually, because the first “representative” hung up on me. Who cares, right? Here’s another great review of this dismal shithole (“I no longer fear death…because I’ve stayed at the Woodley Suites”).

(Continental) Airlines suck(s)

0 #

This makes the third trip in a row where I’ve spent the night somewhere other than my final destination. I want to run a business that charges a lot of money with no obligation for delivery of services. And, no, paying for my shitty mohotel doesn’t make up for your delays. I’m talking to you, Continental. ca_sucks.jpg Here’s a link to the Aviation Consumer Protection Division. Here’s some more helpful info about complaining. Not that any amount of complaining will do any good – for domestic U.S. Flights, there are no U.S. federal regulations that require any compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight. So, you’re at the mercy of the airlines’ already craptacular customer service.

why ur flight is late

These are links to the cargo divisions of various airlines. I have it bookmarked through BB, but so many airport wifis now block the bingbong, I’m posting it here for me:

When you’re flight is delayed, you can look it up here and get the real reason, and not the bullshit reason the retired sky waitress is telling people over the intercom.

Q400Frontier Airlines is now flying the new-hotness Bombardier Q400 turboprop. It uses 30 percent less fuel than a similar-sized jet, yet it’s just as fast. It also has uber-geeky noise and vibration canceling speakers (?) attached to its airframe. Smooooth. Something about prop planes is retro cool.

tctffr$25 to Barack Obama’s campaign. It’s the first time I’ve ever given anything to any political cause. Ever. UNLESS you count the afternoon that a frat buddy and I worked the phones stinking drunk for a certain former capital-city sheriff running for higher office. He had the courage to fight for right, fer sure.
